Self-Sacrifice
A lot of women care deeply for others and still don't feel cared for themselves. We tend to view self-sacrifice as an ultimate expression of love, but there is a hidden pattern in giving everything we have until it ends up hurting. Care that comes from self-sacrifice doesn't teach others how to care for you. It instead teaches them how much you're able to tolerate and how far they can go.
When we attach our value in how much we can endure without complaining, we accidentally create a blueprint for our own burnout. By refusing to voice our own needs or set firm boundaries, we are demonstrating our threshold for neglect.
Here are some of the signs that show you might be engaging in self-sacrifice:
You prioritize others before yourself
You find it difficult to set boundaries
You might feel resentment and burnout
You have a hard time asking for help
When it comes to the relationships we build with others, it requires reciprocity. We must realize that teaching people how to love us is just as important as showing them how much we love them. We are allowed to take up space and voice our own needs even if it can feel awkward and weird at first.
